Guys, I finally figured out why the series is called Legend of ZELDA instead of Legend of LINK, since it's clearly all about him anyways. I mean heck, Majora's Mask and a few other titles didn't even have Zelda in them, and all fans have been put out by non-fans referring to Link as Zelda. It's obviously because if it was called Legend of Link, the initials would be LoL, and Nintendo didn't want everybody laughing at their product.

Well, I've never heard a better theory than this one (or any other theories at all, but that's beside the point), so sounds good to me."Legend of the"... something? Edited by David, Jun 15 2009, 06:45 PM.

The original game was about Zelda, you were just some kid who rescued her. Sorta like why Sleeping Beauty or Briar Rose aren't named Prince Charming (Most of the actual story took place in the manual before the game began). After that, the name stuck. Also, the main character's name isn't set in stone. They can't call it Lo Link because, while Link is his Canon name, It would be dissonant were you to call him Joe, and there be no Link in the game. (If I recall correctly (Forgive me if I'm wrong, it's been almost 15 years since I've played it) you don't name your character in LOZ: AoL). edit: Elf With the Funny Green Hat. (Mind, Link isn't an elf, he's elf-like) Edited by Pendragon, Jun 15 2009, 09:42 PM.

Ah!! I'd got as far as "Legend of the Elf With" and then got stuck. Obvious really. Edit: And hi, David. (Just went and compared your profile to the one on Mercury to see if you were the David I thought you were. )

Hence my comment. And he's a Hylan, not a Kokiri.

Which brings one to the question of what exactly is a kokiri? Mutated Hylians that stay kids for forever? I don't quite get that. |

I always thought they where beings made directly by the Great Deku Tree. Obviously they aren't born, persay, cause A: that'd be sqicky, and B: none noticed when Link just showed up. I'd imagine that Hylan is similar to man, though in this case, rather than the term belonging to one gender of a species, it belongs to one species of a population. Note as well that the later Links, (Timeline wise) live in a post hylan era. One of the villagers in Kakoriko Village refers to the Hylan as an ancient race. |

The races thing in general tends to just get a little...unrealistic. I mean really, how exactly is one to expect, even a fantasy videogame series, for species like the Kokiri or the Zora to evolve into Koroks and Ritos within a hundred years? Granted, should the idea that Kokiris come directly from the Deku Tree him(she? it?)self be accurate, perhaps the Great Deku Tree simply decided that their form should be altered. that's explained away with incredible credulity. But what about the Zora? It's actually explained in game (Majora's Mask specifically), that Zoras hatch from eggs that require rather specific conditions to survive, let alone hatch. So we're to believe that in a hundred years they can go from fish to birds? Seems sketchy to me without some mass magical phloebotnic event to convert everyone--and I think we'd have heard of that by now. |

Well considering the lengths Nintendo has gone through to weave the titles together (admittedly, A Link to the Past and Link's Awakening being exceptions), not incredibly far fetched. |
