First off, if you don't know what a Favicon is, look either at the tab that has this page open or at the link to the Comm in your favourites/bookmarks folder. Both should have a little sickle like icon on a red background, or at least one will if you're browser's refusing to update the icon (IIRC, IE6 and 7 had an issue with it sometimes). That's the Comm's Favicon. Needless to say, had I not described it as a "sickle like icon," you may not have had any clue what it was supposed to be. It's faaaaar outdated, and not particularly acceptable quality. So, we need a new one. Problem is, what do we put there? The Comm is sort of a difficult thing to pin down as being represented by a single icon. Frankly, I haven't a clue what could do the job. So I'd like to open it up to the members to make suggestions. What should our new Favicon be? |

I personally like it as is. I mean, we have to have some connection to our roots, do we not? |

Releasing control art restriction systems 3… 2… 1. Approval of Situation A recognized. Commencing the Cromwell Invocation. Ability restrictions lifted for limited use until the enemy has been rendered silent. I have no name, only a bar code. The pen is indeed mightier than the sword...when launched out of a rail gun. By day, test subject. By night, ninja. Nightcrawler is the original BAMF. I'm just a fig newton of your imagination. Blink and you're dead. | |

True. But do you think it's really...quality enough? |

Well, what does represent the Comm now? We're weirdos and geeks. Art, writing, theater and computer skillz are important among us. We like tabletop games and roleplaying. We like goofing off and being irreverent. So, uh....I don't know, really. |

What about a reworked version of the same theme? If you're dubious about the quality, maybe you could improve it. I can't think of any single image that would represent the comm as a whole but, as 1337 said, this a connection to the Comm's roots, so it's one of the few things that could be seen to represent the whole board. The only other possibility that went through my mind (though it's not exactly inspiring) was that Wikipedia uses a W as its favicon, so I was wondering if anything could be done with the letters of "Comm". |

You mean like that? Ye, obviously I've tried. Paul says it's too dark to read though. You agree?

Actually, on the dark skins I think that looks pretty good. But on the light ones it looks much less clear. |

Yeah, but you won't be seeing it against the skins ever. It'll be in your bookmark bars and on your browser tabs. |

And considering that almost ALL browser skins (AND all DEFAULT browser skins) are light blue/grey/white or something of that variety, it becomes an even bigger problem. |

Wingdings. And I dunno the name of a font that would emulate it, but perhaps a 'C' that looks as if it has been graffiti'd on through a stencil like the text in the banner at the top of the forum pages. Something industrial looking. Like this or this. |

I'd say something a bit more rounded on the bottom. That looks more like an L with a fancy thing on the top than a C. |

If you do a letter like that, you're probably going to want to give it a dark background as well. Maybe something along the lines of the background color for Optical Reach. |
