So I was reading this:
Quote:

Then I got to read a few small snippets and it is all. I. Needed. It is awful. Just awful. Absolutely terrible. Bella is annoying as hell, Edward can't pick a personality so I've decided he doesn't actually have one except "creepy stalker"... and together they make one boring couple.

I understand those who say that they REALIZE it's bad, they know the writing sucks, but it's their guilty pleasure and they couldn't stop. I get that. I have my guilty movies/shows/books, the whole nine yards.

But when people say the writing is excellent and the characters are deep and believable? No. The answer is NO.

And it gave me an idea for this thread. Seems like an interesting subject as long as people don't go TOO far. Which, knowing the memberbase, is in no way a problem.

Discuss.

I think Hannah Montana is really pointless because it's just Miley Cyrus wearing a wig.
But I do enjoy Miley's music and I also understand that lots of people enjoy Hannah Montana, I just don't like it.

My guilty pleasures, hmm...
Well, most of them are inappropriate for the kids that might be viewing.
So I won't discuss those. :P

But I will say that I do like watching Chowder and iCarly even though I'm almost 20 years old.
I still talk to myself and think of extreme fantasies with my imagination wishing they were real.
Only to disappoint myself when I snap out of my day dreams. :(

I enjoyed the Twilight series. It's not the best.
But I will definitely watch every movie.
I am finally a Harry Potter crazed person.
You won't see me jumping up and down over the characters.
But I do fancy Snape slightly and OMGOMGOMGOMG they're making a life size castle!
So, I will jump over the castle. (:

I dunno about the extreme bit, but I am constantly fantasising. I make up really long, complicated fantasies in my head based around whoever I happen to fancy at the time. And yes, despite my age, and being happily married, I get crushes ALL the time (very often on fictitious characters). Have done since I was about 5. My current (for several years now) obsession is Sephiroth, which has led to a love of all things FFVII-related. Would that count as a guilty pleasure? I've never exactly hidden it. :P

What else is there? Although the passion has waned a bit in recent years (possibly due to the rise of the FFVII interest), I was a major Trekkie. That was definitely a guilty pleasure. I never cosplayed or went to any conventions because I was embarrassed to admit how hooked I was on it. The kinds of people I mixed with would have thought I was really weird, although I did have one schoolfriend who went to conventions. I do however have masses of episodes and all the movies recorded on videotape (I'm gradually trying to replace them with DVDs) and loads of novels, encyclopaedias and "Making Of" books.

When I watched the movie, Avatar. I cried several times.
The world was just so beautiful and so perfect. I want to live there so bad.
I mean, how cool would it be to have that gaia-spiritual experience and be some sort of shape shifting creature.
It would just be PERFECT. -squeals-

I don't really fantasize over characters much.
But I do tend to dream of strangers that don't exist and my dreams are so vivid and realistic that I have to spend a few minutes figuring out if any of it happened or not. It's weird. I start out dreaming of my boyfriend and when I wake up, it's someone who doesn't even exist. Any explanations for why that happens?

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Hmm, I'm not sure about my guilty pleasures. A lot of them don't really qualify as "guilty".

I openly admit to liking a lot of stuff that might seem childish. In fact, I probably don't seem very mature to most people a lot of the time. I still like playgrounds, especially swings. I kept all my old kid's books, instead of tossing them out, and I still read some of them. I go through a lot of silly teen fiction and don't mind admitting that I follow the Warriors series through the Glasgow Library rather avidly. I get absurdly happy when I have something new related to Doctor Who, even though it's technically a kid's show. I don't mind watching or reading stuff that's incredibly cheesy, or even just watching something purely because of the special effects.

That said, sometimes when I'm doing this stuff it's actually an uphill battle against my own reservations. I've always had social anxiety problems, so for a long time I would get very focused on what other people thought and what was the "right" thing to do. I'm trying to work through those problems, because my own lack of self-confidence seriously bothers me. So actually a lot of the time I have to make a strong effort to say, "Screw what other people think," and go do something silly, but I think it helps me and it makes me happier. So I guess you could say that I'm actively trying not to have guilty pleasures, just pleasures. I do still have a few though.

I guess what I would feel guilty about is where I start to feel like I'm enjoying something a little too much, which usually leads me to pulling back and trying to work out exactly why I like it the way I do, although that may be another problem of mine that we won't get into here. Above all I hate the idea of blind devotion, that may have something to do with it.

Oh yes, I fantasize a lot. Quite a lot. I think that may be my biggest "guilty" pleasure-a lot of the fantasizing is about stuff that I've made up, my own stories and things, and that doesn't bother me. In fact, it's a comfort. Occasionally it's about other fictions, though. I admit to wondering if I was expending a bit too much mental energy rationalizing the ending to Life On Mars, although that might have been to stave off depression.

I have issues.

Without hope, well, you might as well be blind,
Yeah, be blind."

I can relate to that.

Guilty pleasures? I still make blanket forts (though that may have more to do with my anxieties and urge to isolate myself...), I play with my stuffed animals and hold tea parties with my friend. I LOVE the old Disney movies... but I'd say my greatest guilty pleasure is really mindless, silly romance books. Ones with no real substance, just sweet, fluffy romance books.

Not Twilight, though. It used to be my guilty pleasure, seeing as it was the only mindless romance book I own, but I just can't read it anymore...

Does sneaking downstairs in the middle of the night to steal cookies count as a guilty pleasure?

Can't see an invisible ninja.

I don't! I'm in public school!

But yeah, so LEGOs. Big on the LEGOs.

My guilty pleasures are weapons, food, music, and history.
Weaponry like guns, tanks, IFVs, aircraft... oh just imagine the rounds from a 5.56mm ricocheting of the sloped armour of the Leo2A4 or the SPz. Ulan firing it's 30mm cannon into unsuspecting foes...heheheh...
Food, this is a no brainer...I may not look like it but I am a glutton, food makes me happy.
Music, same thing as food, I have to be surrounded by it, listening to every note taking in the melody.
History stems from my love of weaponry... history is shaped by conflict.

I didn't know food and music and history counted as guilty pleasures. Damn, that's three more to add to my list. If I'm without music for too long I can barely function.

Oh trust me guilty pleasures can be anything...what ever makes you shut yourself off from the world and makes you happy can be considered a guilty pleasure, even if it is vague.

Candy is a guilty pleasure of mine.
I have a drawer full of candy that probably won't get eaten because there's too much. D8

I think the fantasising generally goes for anyone on this board who writes at all, myself included, and a few who don't.

Addtionally: She-Hulk. Man, she symbolises just about everything I loathe in a comic book character, but that's one sexy green lawyer.
