'Tis not a coward heart that drives us now to fly, If we rest and move no more, corpses we shall lie. -The Red Sun, Brigadier General Adrian Leoncourt, USMC (ret) AD 2010: A Chinese-Canadian university student decides to start a play-by-post roleplay about a group of normal people of the near-future being thrust into extrordinary circumstances. He begins with a highly unconventional signup thread. No records of this "RP" survive. Mid 2010s: The US economy enters a slow and protracted decline thanks to pressue from re-emerging superpowers China and Russia. Japan and ASEAN nations slip from US sphere of influence. 2017: Saudi monarchy collapses under succession crisis. Saudi Arabia plunged into civl war between the remnants of the royal family and a fundementalist military coup. The US deploys the 5th fleet to the Persian Gulf to support the royalists. Skyrocketing oil prices cause concern among the public and the US government considers doubling exports from Canada and Russia. After growing popular discontent, the ruling United Russia Party calls a free election and is soundly defeated. A center-right coalition takes control of the Russian Federation 2018: The US and Canada begin talks over expanding the North American Free Trade Agreement into the political and civil spheres. The European Union announces full deregulation of borders between member states. 2019: China lands troops in Taiwan. Without nearby American support, the ROC's armed forces are slowly, but surely ground to dust after a protracted five month campaign. PRC casualties are disproportionately high. The PLA's abysmal performance during the invasion does as much to reassure western military analysts as it does worry Chinese ones. NATO declares a total trade embargo on the People's Republic of China. The ailing American economy enters freefall. China suffers a full economic meltdown. The ruling junta is ousted and replaced by the Party Conference of 2025 - democratic reforms are declared six years ahead of schedule. 2020: The All nations except for the US lift the embargo against China. The US economy continues to decline. Canada offers to unify in an equal political partnership with the United States. The Victoria Accord is signed at the end of the year and comes into effect on January 1st, 2021. 2021: The USA and Canada become the United States of North America. The new super-nation is tested by two equal and pressing crises: North Korea launches a full-scale invasion of South Korea. After the DPRK deploys tactical nukes on UN and South Korean forces, the USNA unilaterally launches one fourth of its entire nuclear stockpile at the DPRK. Less than five thousand North Koreans are estimated to have survived. This proves the last nail in the coffin for the American-European Alliance. NATO dissolves three days later. Venezuela backs a coup d'etat in Mexico. Elements of the 101st Airbourne Division and the PPCLI land in Mexico City within 24 hours. After six days of heavy fighting, the USNA announces the annexation of Mexico. Honduras joins the USNA soon afterwards. 2022: In response to the formation of the USNA, the PRC reveals secret, high level talks between Beijing and New Delhi. China and India unite to counter the threat of a USNA backed, nuclear armed Pakistan. The People's Republic of Asia is formed. Mongolia and the Philipines join soon after. In response to the formation of the PRA, the EU, now more united nation than mere commonwealth, allies with the Russian Federation. This soon evolves into a loose confederation of states administered jointly from London, Berlin and Moscow. The European Federation is formed. 2023: The PRA begins work on the "Spiderweb" anti-missle defence system, this threatens to destabalize the nuclear balance of power which had prevailed since the beginning of the Cold War. 2024: The Spiderweb War: The USNA unilaterally launches an invasion of the PRA, landing expeditionary forces in Qingdao, Kowloon and Guangdong. To the surprise of just about everyone except for the Chinese, these landings are quickly driven into the sea. The entire US Pacific Fleet is destroyed after four days of naval combat. 2025: Chinese and Indian cruise missiles level Pearl Harbour. PLAN marines are not far behind. A show of force by the Deng Xiaopeng's carrier air group over San Francisco Bay force the USNA to the table. The war lasts three months. The Treaty of Jinan brings the war to a close. The USNA cedes Guam and all other pacific possessions (except the Aleutians and Hawaii) to the PRA. In an eerie echo of events less than a century past, the EF Foreign Minister declares North American political and military influence to be "just about played out." 2029: An upsurge of patriotic fervor and newly found brotherhood prevails in the People's Republic of Asia. This is capped off by the inauguration of the Celestial Gate, a large space station. The station is staffed by over three dozen permanent crew and is armed with several iridium kinetic kill vehicles or "rods from god", capable of hitting anywhere in the world at any time. 2031: The EF begins construction of a massive network of civil defence shelters to allay fears and general panic over Celestial Gate's weaponry. Over sixty million concrete bunkers are prepared over a period of fifteen years at the cost of over 400 trillion Euros. 2032: As part of a massive post-war military buildup, the USNA begins construction on its own KKV armed orbital launchpad, Space Station Liberty. Analysts state that at the current rate of spending, the USNA would face economic collapse within three decades. 2035: The completion of Space Station Liberty is overshadowed by the announcement of the EF's own new military space station, Orpheus. In response, both the PRA and the USNA begin designing orbit-capable fighter aircraft. 2037: With the installation of the Polyphemus Surveillance Module, Orpheus becomes the largest manmade space-bourne object in the history of mankind. The PRA intensifies work on their orbital fighter project and fields proposals for upgrading Celestial Gate. 2038: The PRA announces the installation of three railgun modules, Temujin, Kongming and Tipu Sultan on the Celestial Gate. Protests against the militarization of space grow in non-aligned states. The three superpowers mostly ignore them. Though all three sign the Murmansk Accords, banning the use of chemical and biological weapons inside space-borne environments. 2044: The PRA unveils the J-31 Tian Lung orbital fighter. Several months later, the USNA announces the existence of the XF-42 Peregrine, a fighter with similiar capabilities. 2045: The EF deploys remote controlled pods of anti-aircraft missiles around Orpheus. The USNA scambles to do the same around Liberty. Many believe that a war between the three major powers over control of low-mid Earth orbit will occur before the decade is out. 2048: present day. -DECEMBER 17th, 2048, SOMEWHERE OUTSIDE LIEGE, BELGIUM, EUROPEAN FEDERATION- Welcome to the European Federation Civil Defence and Security Network... Well done everyone. Just one note. Red, Alexander's CIdM (Carte d'Identification Militaire) allows him to take the Glock with him while off duty and allows him to carry it around the entire EF, but I'm afraid he's going to have to leave the assault rifle on the base. Not only would it make your character ridiculously well-prepared, it'd also be a blatant violation of Federation gun control laws, even for someone with Gold-level clearance. Also, 60 kilos works out to roughly 130 pounds. While I can see Val being that weight, Alexander should be at LEAST 5kgs heavier. |

What I'm trying to do is make profiles give only the cursory information that the others in the group would be able to read from the info display from over the shoulder of the person entering their ID. I'd prefer personality and personal history to be revealed through the RP itself instead of on a three word-page long infodump. |
