A Message from the RP Staff: Before I say anything else: Have fun, but be serious about your RP. To have an RP, you have to put in a lot of planning. You need to create an entire world. You can't just slap up: "Hey guys, let's all post and make a story! My character's name is Chang!" No, bad. Put effort into your RPs before hand. If yours is not viewed as serious, it will be locked. Rules 1.) RPs are "Role Plays" where you assume the role of a character. This obviously means that you keep true to the character profile and post what your character's thoughts, feelings, and actions would be. Naturally, this provides stimulus for other characters to play off of. However, unless otherwise stated, these responses do not govern the story. The creator of the RP will likely have a plan in mind for the direction the RP is to take. These are the major events that the other RPers will respond to. 2.) At times, you may be contacted by the creator of an RP to enter into a certain part of the plot and play an additional role in adding to major events. 3.) You ever heard the expression, "The Devil's in the details?" For examples look at how I post. I'm not saying you need to type an essay for each post. Kiseki Harada, Tanooki Mario, and Inuit Goddess are all great examples for short, quick posts and updates. Do not lean heavily on either long posts or short posts. You need to find a balance between them. 4.)When making and executing RPs, there should be one topic for Out of Character (OoC) discussion, and one topic for the Story itself. In the OoC topic, post info on the world the RP takes place in, what you're looking for for characters, and anything else people need to know, including a template for character profiles. When everyone has posted character profiles, start the main Story topic. 5.) You may have picked up on the: (OoC: Zeth, you messed up my character!) at the end of the posted RP response. These short messages are ok for use from time to time, and always go either at the beginning or the end of a post. DO NOT OVERUSE THESE. For in depth Q/A or several question in a row, the OoC/Sign-up threads exist. I think I trust everyone to use common sense on this point though. These rules are apt to change from time to time with updates/clarification. Just check it out when I post (OoC: Look at the RP Rules Thread for more.) or something as to that message. Godmodding For those of you who don't know exactly what godmodding is, here's the skin and bones version of it- It's making yourself the ultimate character, invincible, and better than everyone else. There are different ways you can godmodd, but they all center around making yourself way better than everyone else without a sensible explanation. In some cases, such as being able to lightning bend or metalbend in an Avatar: The Last Airbender RP, have no explanation. Here are some examples of godmodding: Being amazingly beautiful and everyone you meet HAS to fall head over heels for you. Never getting wounded in battle (or outside of it), ever. Whenever you're faced with a new challenge you suddenly develop an amazing skill that conveniently helps you get over the obstacle very quickly. As soon as you need something, you find it lying around nearby, and once yu don’t need it before, it’s gone. You can win against anything at all, particularly in one hit. Nothing scares you, and you don’t have any weaknesses. Godmodding, however, is NOT: Becoming very good at something after a while. Having a powerful character (though not unbeatable) Being skilled at numerous things (but not a ton) Having a unique, individual character Try to follow these guidelines, and you’ll have a well developed, very nice character for roleplaying. If you have any questions, just pm me and ask. Edited by Inuit, Jan 30 2008, 08:47 AM.
